San Juan del Sur – Spanish classes
Again we’d booked ourselves in for Spanish classes for the week. The highlight was for the boys who loved their teacher Geoffrey…
Conveniently it was located next door to the town supermarket 🙂 which rocks when you are self-catering two meals a day 🙂
We also did a great excursion to a local school so that the kids could practise their Spanish – which was fun!
All well that ends with a certificate 🙂
Ometepe to San Juan del Sur
We’re on the move again…
A drive back to the ferry…
(past the cute little villages)
The reverse and much less-squishy ferry…
another drive…
(the car service gave us a car to transport the 6 of us…after a little haggling (my best Spanish ever suddenly appeared!) we organised for two cars and were on our way)
To the beautiful beach side town of San Juan del Sur which would be our home for the next week. We finished the day with a stroll along the beach and dinner watching the sun go down 🙂
Chilling out Between Volcanoes
Granada to Ometepe, Nicaragua
After Spanish in the morning, it was time to head to Ometepe – and island made from two dormant volcanoes.
First a drive…
then a squishy ferry…
then another drive…
which cut across the islands airstrip…
which led from the base of a volcano to the water)
sharing the road with all sorts of vehicles…
and animals)
A stop at Punta Jesus Maria to see the stunning view back to the mainland (or shopping for some)…
a second stop at Laguna Charco Verde
then to Villa Pariso – our little cabins in the oasis for a good nights sleep after another really interesting day 🙂
Below is a pic showing the island made from two volcanoes!

Around Granada
Volcan Masaya
Tonight we did an excursion up to see Volcan Masaya…who knew you could get so close to a live volcano? We literannly drove to the rim and looked in…!
We only stayed 15 minutes (as that is all you are allowed to due to the queue and the radiant gases) but that was enough & incredible!
Amazing and probably something we will never get to see again!
Spanish Classes in Granada
Mombacho to Granada, Nicaragua
First up this morning was a guided hike around Mombacho Cloud forest…
Then a wander around near our cabins listening and finally seeing the howler monkey…
Then an early afternoon transfer to Granada where we would spend the next week. We timed our arrival poorly, as we managed to be driving down the main street moments before their annual running of the bulls parade!
The day saw out a comfort dinner of pizza and a first wander around Granada 🙂
Mombacho Nicaragua
We’re off on an mum adventure! Poor dad has to stay home 😦 for the first two weeks but he is meeting us in Costa Rica at the end.
First after delays – we finally took off 🙂
We flew into Liberia Costa Rica, crossed the border and then made our way overland
to Mombacho Cloud forest where we would spend our first night 🙂
We had a small hike before dinner to check out the wild life and then retired to our basic cabins for a well deserved night’s rest!
It was a long first day (and would be the longest in our adventure!)
