Macy’s Chinese Puppet Day

December 7, 2014
by

We haven’t been into NYC as a family for a while and so we headed in today…

First stop was Macy’s to see their Christmas windows and visit Santaland. In our usual super-early-style we beat the crowds!

For lunch we headed down to China town for Dim Sum (aka yum cha if you’re Australian).

Then off to the Swedish Marionette Theatre in Central Park for their annual Holiday season puppet show. The show was quite a mash-up of Chrismas-Hanukkah-Kwanzaa. It had something for everyone.

Poor Elfie is not coping so well with the NJ winter, so Santa gave him a bomber jacket to keep him warm.

Photos 005

Is it that his fur coat that is warm enough for the north pole is not warm enough for NJ? or that he is a style-king?

Secret Shoppe

December 6, 2014
by

This morning mom took Eli & Lachie to our local church who has a Secret Shoppe for Christmas. In the words of Eli….

Mum gives you $20 and you go with a special elf helper, who takes you shopping in the Secret Santa Shop. [a room inside the church]  Meanwhile mum waits in the hall with the other parents.
The helpers helped Lachie and Eli choose and wrap pressies for mum and dad. This way mum and dad don’t know what they are getting for Christmas! We can choose anything in the store that we think they might like.
Eli & Lachie reappear about an hour later with a bag of goods for under tree and pick up mum in the hall.

Mum & Dad can’t wait to see what they chose!

Text from church invite:

SHHHHHH……..IT’S A SECRET SHOPPE!

Saturday, December 6,   9 AM – 1 PM

All children ages pre-school to grade 5 are invited to shop in secret for gifts for their family and friends.  Teen-aged and adult “elves” will be on hand to guide and assist the children with their selections.

Prices range from $2 – $9

Free gift wrapping included.

While the children shop we invite all waiting adults to gather for light refreshments and warm fellowship in the Burnett Room.  They can also do some shopping of their own at the SERRV Shop, where fair trade items will be offered during the same hours as the Secret Shoppe.  These quality handmade items from around the world provide a just income for the artisan and a unique gift for holiday giving.  Jewelry, Christmas decorations, household items and other gifts will be available.  Come early for the best selections.

Look who’s back…yum!
