Stunning scenic drive: Key West to Miami Beach
After a quick visit to the dead center of town (Key West Cemetery)…
(Check out some of those tomb stones e.g. “I told you I was sick”)
And the mandatory photo stop at the most southerly point of the USA…
(90 miles from Cuba)
We were off to drive the 170m from Key West to Miami Beach.
First stop was the National Key Deer Refuge. This is what we were looking for:
(Photo compliments of Wikipedia)
This is what we saw:
A quick Key Lime Pie stop and then we drove across the stunning Seven Mile Bridge:

A quick stop in at the Turtle hospital in Marathon. Unfortunately their tours were full, but we had a quick squiz at the museum.
Next stop was at Robbies in Islamorada to feed the Tarpon and have an ice-cream.
Before a late lunch in Key Largo at Mrs Mac’s Kitchen, and then hitting the Fruit and Spice Park in Miami.
Check out the lizard that Lachie proudly caught. After a full day of lizard hunting, he had finally managed to catch one 🙂
Then through Coral Gables on the outskirts of Miami…
to the final stop was meant to a swim at the Venetian Pool but unfortunately it was closed on Mondays. It was however a sight to see – even empty.
Then finally a quick swim, before frocking up for dinner.
A day full of stunning views and lizard hunting – fun for all!
Hot weather here we come!
With a two hour sojourne in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport…
After a slight hiccup we arrived in Key West only five hours late (let’s not start on a negative…).
Aerial shot from a plane of the road into Key West from here, and ok the plane is flying in the wrong direction – but you get the idea 🙂
After checking into the hotel we went for a walk around town…
Past the Basilica of St. Mary Star of the Sea…
Along the hopping Duval Street….
We passed loads of interesting vehicles…
…saw the sun settinging over the water…
…wandered through the historic old seaport…
We tried some of the local specialties: including fresh seafood, conch and margaritas for dinner…
It was a great start to our holiday 🙂
New camera
Happy Easter
Even Spider-Girl has to take her mask off
The Easter Bunny’s secret hiding place
On Saturday, the weather was BEAUTIFUL (15C!) and so the Easter Bunny told us to head on down to Liberty Hall Museum and go for a wander through the garden. Guess what we found!!!! Yummo 🙂
Although Liberty Hall Museum and its grounds are beautiful…
No one was looking at its beauty, as there was an Egg Hunt commencing and it was every man for himself!
Then we got to meet the Easter Bunny 🙂
Before catching up with some friends (and pulling some funny faces) and heading home 🙂
It was a fun day 🙂
Cheese King
So when dad and Eli are at a party – mum and Lachie make cheese! Mmmm fresh bocconcini for Lachie the Cheese King.
(no nails, hair or girly stuff for us but maybe a little dancing…)
It too one gallon of milk to make about a pound of cheese. Probably not the best use of the milk…
Good Job Little Bear
Icky science experiments already?
For the last week (or two?) Eli has had three wet soggy pieces of bread lying around the house. One in the cupboard, one on the window sill and one in the fridge. The aim was to see which one grew the most mould. Can you guess which one won? A you can see below there was a clear winner…
(Between Lachie continously trying to bring pet bugs into the house and Eli’s science experiments – mum is slowly loosing the battle to keep the house under control. Maybe she should give up now)
