Washington – so much history!
Today was less about the museums and more about the historic monuments. In the morning we walked and walked and walked around the national mall and tidal basin…
World War II Memorial
Vietnam Memorial
Lincoln Memorial
Plus the view from the top (can you spot the second Wallace in this one?)
Korean War Memorial
John Ericsson National Memorial, Potomac River and the geese
Martin Luther King Memorial
Roosevelt Memorial
George Mason (Bill of Rights)
Jefferson Memorial
Then we had a little down time back at the hotel as our feet were on strike!
Washington – so much to see!
Number one on mum’s touring list has been Washington (ideally with the Cherry Blossoms) but she’ll take what she can get 🙂
This morning we drove from Baltimore to Washington (1 hour). On our way into town we stopped at the beautiful National Cathedral.
Then we hit downtown Washington DC. We went for a walk…
(Scroll over the photos for the name of the building)
Checked out the Natural History Museum…
Swung past the National Gallery of Art West Building…
(I have tried to capture everyone’s favourite. Can you pick which one is which?)
Ww walked around the mall and the Washington Monument…
Had our first view of the white house…
Before heading back to the hotel. What a great day.
(These pictures are a bit like “Where’s Wally?”. If you look closely in most of them you can spot one of the kids!)
Yarrr Me Hearties, its a big one!
Non stop action continued in Baltimore. This morning we walked Baltimore Visitors Center’s Heritage Trail…
Joined the festivities in the local Italian quarter…
Toured the USS Torsk submarine…
and then the USS Constellation…
We left dad who toured more ships for a little quiet time back at the hotel before heading to Annapolis for a pirate cruise….
dinner at Chick and Ruth’s Deli…
and a quick wander around beautiful Annapolis (in the rain drops) to wear off dinner…
before heading back to Baltimore for a well deserved snooze 🙂
Good Morning Baltimore
It had been a few months and so mum decided it was time for another road trip. After a morning drive in the car travelling through New Jersey, Pennsylvannia, Delaware to reach Maryland (3.5 hours) Good Morning Baltimore!
First stop was Faidley’s in Lexington Market for some yummy Crab cakes.
Then it was a walk
down to the water front…
it was hot hot hot down there and so we had a quick run in the spray park…
before taking a ferry to Fort McHenry…
then a ferry ride to Fell’s Point for an ice cream…
followed by dinner and dancing around the harbour side…
We were off to a great start 🙂
Singing at the Dentist?
We confess. We’ve been here for 18 months and we haven’t been to the dentist. We did go the week before we left Australia though….
So it was time. Mum surfed the internet and the bloggers were unanamous. Dr Fried was the only one to go to. So we made four appointments three months out! It was worth the wait. Dr Fried was awesome!!!
We got to the Dental Sugery to find the waiting room stocked with toys, a big train set and a tv. First impressions = excellent!
On the way in Eli bravely went first. She smiled and laughed her way through her turn. Meanwhile Dr Fried had Lachie singing and impatient for his turn.
Dr Fried explained everything and aswered all of their questions (tooth related and non-tooth related). Nothing was scary. Nothing hurt. His manner was kind, gentle, patient, responsive while still doing an amazing job. He
Eli – was impressed because he painted princesses on the inside of her teeth.
Lachie – was impressed because he painted yummy vanilla tasting stuff on his teeth.
Mum – was impressed because he answered all her questions.
Dad – was impressed because it was all so easy.
Thank you Dr Fried. You rock!
When mum put Lachie to bed that night she said to him:
Lachie what was the best thing that happened to you today?
To which he responded: Going to the dentist. When can we go again mum?
March 4th!
Around the world in one birthday?
Dad’s birthday this year was all about the food!
(yes mum did plan it!)
The day started with Aussie sausage rolls and an American brownie-style cake 🙂
(with beautiful singing from the Giraffe and Superman)
and ended with Indian and Korean Soju…
(with further beautiful singing from Chris, Courtney, Carlos and Michelle – thanks guys xx)

Knights and Dragons
Today we went to our local zoo to see the Knights and the dragon. First we ran for the Knights…
The only “animals” we made time for were frogs and the bugs around the climbing rocks…
and of course we played King/Princess/Kinght of the mountain…
We were so excited to see the knights (and the princess) that we forgot to see the 5-foot Komodo dragon. We’ll have to go again!
Maplewoodstock
I’m fessing up! I deleted all of the other photos from Maplewoodstock – so you’ll have to check out their website.
Although I deleted the one of my yummy lobster roll, I did however keep this one of Lachie and his hotdog…phew!
Check out the size of that thing! Needless to say Lachie had more fun playing with it than eating it 😦
