Cruisin’ Day 7: Final Chance to Relax

April 28, 2012
by

After a day of relaxing….

We went down to the main stage and put on a show for mum and dad…
(Eli danced and sang in time next to the mascot Funship Freddy while Lachie did his own version right up the front for all to see)

They rewarded us with ice-cream…

Then we joined the other kids for dinner, leaving mum and dad to sort themselves out.
They were entertained by Singing Waiters again in their main dining room…

…and spent the evening drinking cocktails, cruising the upper decks…

…and checking out the oil rigs before picking us up 🙂

It was another action-packed fun-filled day!
Love Eli + Lachie xx

Day 6 – At sea.
Eating, swimming, dancing, reading – anything in the chillin’ category 🙂

There is not a whole lot to say about today and so I’ll tell you a little about one of our favourite aspects of the cruise. Each night when we got back to our room their was a cool towel animal and a chocolate waiting for us. Lachlan was particularly excited by the chocolate while Bianca and Eli loved the towel animals.

Eli and I loved the towel animals and so we attended a class. Check out our masterpieces…

Cruisin’ Day 5: Jamaica

Our luck with the beautiful weather ran out. Day 5 was a wet and miserable day…what to do this morning?
Eli and Lachie took the t-shirt decorating and face painting option.
Nathan took the book and cocktails option.
Bianca decided to brave the rain, lightning and all fashion sense, to go bob-sleding and zip-lining at Mystic Mountain.
All were happy 🙂

As usual, Bianca had the camera and so there are only photos of her morning…
(Besides the others were waaaaaay too busy having fun to take photos)

It was awesome!

In the evening, we dinner as a family and watched the Lion King movie in deck chairs by the pool to finish the day 🙂

Cruisin’ Day 4: Grand Cayman

After arriving at Grand Cayman…

and taking two hours to get off the boat…

We headed to the nearest beach for some fish and chips…

and a swim and sandcastle play.

What beautiful weather!

Cruisin’ Day 3: Cozumel

In true Bianca style we broke from the pack and caught a taxi to a nearby wildlife park.

We saw a seal lion show and got kisses from them at the end…

Swam and played in the sand / stands…Lachie was most happy paddling or chasing ants.

We got up close to the dolphins and manatees but unfortunately we were not allowed to take any photos.

We also got see our ship from afar for the first time…

As we’d been out all day, we tried a new strategy and dropped Eli & Lachie off at kids club for dinner.
They then finished the day with an early dinner and a cocktail…

while being entertained by singing waiters…

Before picking the kids up from kids club around 8pm.
(where Eli proudly won a medal for her colouring skills)

Teddy and Elephant couldn’t keep the pace and they were already asleep when we got back to the room.

Cruisin’ Day 2: At Sea

What is there to do at sea?

Relax, expore and eat! Perfect 🙂

Even quiet time is fun…

Eli found the kids club too. Here she is coming home late (8pm) on a high from being at the club with the kids 😉

Beignets, Princess Carriages and Relaxation

April 22, 2012

With only a morning to see the rest of New Orleans before our cruise departed we prioritise the most important parts…

Using the tram to get around town…

Beignets – French pastries at Cafe Du Monde for breakfast…

A play in Jackson Square…

A carriage ride (like a real princess!)…

…around the French Quarter…

The most notable things about New Orleans were the character, the FOOD and the people everywhere!

(and the cool drains)

Before embarking on a 7-day cruise to recover.

We kicked off into relaxation mode with an ice-cream! Ahhh the cruise was off to a good start 🙂

Goodbye New Orleans. See you in a week 🙂

Nawleans

We hit Louisiana and the rain from the night before in Houston continued and so it was indoor play in the morning.

After walking along the mall beside the Mississippi we hit the Mardis Gras World

and my personal favourite- RAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Lunch was at Mannings – which we think may be owned by the well known and loved/hated but very talented football family. Check out the recliners in front of the big screens…

Walking around New Orleans…

Mum went for a walk in the evening too. What a different place! I guessed it helped that 6 massive Navy ships were in port for the weekend…

…and of course Boubon Street…

What a scramble!

April 20, 2012
by

We threw caution (well planning) to the wind and decided to stay an extra night in Houston and go to the Galveston County Fair.

Nathan thought we were off on a wild goose chase when I had the GPS set for the closest county road and headed into the middle of the field. The fact that it was bucketing down and muggy didn’t really help my cause, but we gave it a go anyway!

We checked out the winning pigs, cows, calves, bulls, goats, chickens, turkeys and rabbits – that had been jusged thus far…

Proud owners…

We saw a few more being judged…

Then we skipped the carnival rides in favour of the main arena where the real action was taking place! There was the mandatory anthem to start proceedings…

We saw the judging of Little Miss and Mr, and junior Miss and Mr of the show…

Eli even had the honour of having her photo taken with Miss Show.

There were bucking horses…

Steer roping…
(see the last photo – we checked the steers at the end and they were all fine and happy to play in the game)

…and our favourite – the scramble!
(For those who haven’t seen a scramble before it is awesome to watch. Basically the local children compete to catch a goat. There are more kids than goats. Those who catch one get the goat and $200 to raise the goat. Then they bring it back to the show the following year for judging, to see who has done the best job raising it. The schedule said that it was meant to be a pig scramble ut it was actually a goat scramble on the night. Apparently they couldn’t find enough baby pigs. This was unfortunate for those involved because unlike pigs, baby goats have sharp little horns.)

If the sign of a good night is the state of your shoes…we sure had a good time!

Houston we don’t have a problem

Houston, we don’t have a problem. Well actually we did with our hotel room but that was quickly sorted out 😉

The day was spent at the Houston Space Center which was only a few miles from our hotel.

First we played in the kids space place to wear off some energy…

Then we ALL went on a tram ride around the facility.

First stop was the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility…

Then we remembered the fallen members of the NASA team…

…Then the real life rocket ship stop…

Then the rocket!!!

Then the astronant gallery…

The random big toys everywhere…

There was a whole lot more to the center but we had reached our saturation point by this time.
It was definitely a fun adventure! One of the highlights was touching a moon rock – how cool!
