Saturday 24th November
My parent’s thought last Saturday was an important momentus day.
One parent said it was so, because it was my first federal election. The other said the day was important as it was my first sausage sizzle. Which parent was right?
I THINK it was momentus because I got to meet Luke Austin, my newest friend 🙂
The game is up!
The game was lots of fun…but I am too mature now! I play with big kids 🙂
After almost four weeks, I let mum and dad win. Last Thursday I gave in and finally took the bottle. I always knew how to do it, but it was fun watching mum and dad feed me milk from a spoon.
So after watching Isabelle and Tahlia at PlayCare and with the help of Chris Minogue (a fabulous mothercraft nurse), I’ve decided to drink from the bottle again.
In fact I’ve found a really creative way to take the bottle. Mum (or whoever) holds onto the end of the bottle (cause they are quite heavy you know). Then I direct it into my mouth with my hands and feet.
The PlayCare Journey
Well mum has gone back to work and I’ve started at PlayCare. Mum and dad call it day-care but I like to call it PlayCare as that is all I do there. I’ve been there for a few weeks and I can give you the official verdict…two thumbs up and a big smile!
One of the fun parts for me is watching mum and dad get organised in the morning. They run a pretty tight ship. First mum feeds me for half an hour. Meanwhile dad gets ready for work. Then when I’ve finished cruising through breakfast, dad gets me ready and packs the car while mum gets ready. You should see the amount of stuff we need each day!
Then we jump in the car and dad drops mum and I at the station where we get the train in to PlayCare. Right is a picture of me on the platform, full on energy, excitement and ready to go waiting for the train.
Here is me on the train checking all the other communuters out. I wonder if their PlayCare is as fun as mine?
To the left is one of me at PlayCare
Lastly, to the right is one of me on the train on the way home. Notice my tired glassy eyes from all the excitement of the day. I’m ready to go home, have a bath, a snuggle, dinner and then a good night sleep.
Sleeping beauties
…and then there were two!
It has been confirmed…
So much hard work and so little to show for it…until now! My first tooth has arrived 🙂
You can just see it poking through – check it out! It is in the middle of my bottom gum, thus the funny picture angle. Or at least that is what mum told me when she started taking upside down piccies.
It took a few attempts to get the angle right. Check out some of the less successful attempts below….
Priority handling during household emergencies
This evening I was hanging out with Dad and enjoying a nice splash around in the bath. All very normal until Mum suddenly decided to do some arc welding in the kitchen.
Basically there was a squeal from Mum, then a huge cracking noise and a massive flash of light from the kitchen.
Although Dad has considerable experience in household emergencies, Mum was quick to tell him that even if she may be electrocuted that’s no excuse for leaving me unattended in the bath!
Disclaimer: No Wallaces were harmed in the making of this blog post. (Just scared by it.)
Happy half birthday to me!
At five months I was all giggles and smiles 🙂
…but this has been a busy month for me with lots of progress. There is less time for giggling and smiling now as I have other important things to do.
Now I….
- Take things from you when you pass them to me (and quite often I get bored and pass them back).
- Roll more confidently (but just in one direction still – unless you convince me that I want to roll the other way)
- Sit up for about 20 seconds (but don’t forget to catch me before I face-plant MUM and DAD!)
- Eat solids and formula from a spoon. Due to my love of pumpkin, the kitchen, the tv room, mum, dad and all of my outfits are now orange!
- Like to hold things and turn them around and around so that I can look at them from different angles.
- Can do the sign language gesture for milk when I am hungry.
- Like to chat lots and lots.
- Lean in and put my arm around your neck when I cuddle.
- Give HUGE big sloppy kisses just to my mum! This gets me lots of brownie points – I know where the food comes from!
Tooth-i-peg?
We can’t see it….but there is something razor sharp sticking out of my bottom gum. This could be my first tooth 🙂
Now when I munch on everyone’s fingers – they really know I am there. It is still a sign of affection though…
Stay tuned: either photos to come or mum & I will be very disappointed 😦
Bottle blues
Dad is trying to teach me how to drink from the bottle this week, but I’m really just not into it. All his advice says to try different combinations of breast milk, formula brands, bottles, teats and feeding positions. My defence is simple, I just don’t let anything near my mouth at all!
Rather than being discouraged, I think Dad should focus on what we have learnt this week, and be proud of that:
- I can now push things away that I’m not interested in.
- I have become very patient, saying no without theatrics for about 4 hours each day. (Admittedly things go downhill from there, but you’d think he’d get the point by then.)
- I’m pretty sure the milk comes from “Mummm.. Mummm.. Mummm..”.
- I’m the world’s youngest ventriliquist! I can say or do anything without ever opening my mouth.
Can anyone give me one good reason why I’d give up so many cuddles with Mum and the freshest supply of drinking milk on demand? Maybe it has something to do with that nice place with all the other kids that we visited earlier this week?
