The most popular man in town
The Pope is in town and Bianca was super excited to win the Pope lottery (does it get any luckier?) to score tickets to see him in Central Park.
It was very cool to see the Pope flag around town, particularly (alsmost) next door on St Patrick cathedral 🙂
Unfortunately on arriving at Central Park to see him – I realised there was the million tall people waiting to get through security who also scored tickets, so the likelihood of actually seeing him was very low. Discouraged I gave up 😦 and have regretted it ever since. Next time (if there is one!) I’ll have more staying power 🙂
Another random day
The kids have just gone back to school (3rd), have had Labor day off (7th), have the 14th & 15th off (Rosh Hashanah) and now have the 23rd September (Yom Kippur) off. Not a bad start to the school year if you are a kid…
So mum took today off and we combined a little fun with some chores. See if you can work out which is which?
Eli was particularly proud to be able to get big-girl layers 🙂
Finding Neverland
We decided to take advantage of Broadway Week’s 2-for-1 deal and bought tickets to Finding Neverland on Broadway.
So we had another excuse for a little adventure into the city
First stop Bareburger (which was fun to try but probably a little on the healthy side for us! We’re not convinced burgers are meant to be healthy)
A wonder around time square – including checking out the biggest flatscreen in the world (it is a whole city block!) the merry-go-round in the Toys-R-Us show and the M&Ms Shop.
Then the show – which was fabulous and Lachie made it all the way through without getting super restless! Our little tigers are growing up 😦
It was lots of fun 🙂
Breakin Moves
No pics yet – but Lachie started break dancing classes today 🙂
After the success of his hip hop classes – we’ve broken our golden rule of no activities mid-week – and signed up.
We can’t wait for the concerts!
Cronuts
It was time to finally try the much sought after – very hard to obtain – original cronut – a half donut + half croissant invention by Dominque Ansel.
So we timed it perfectly and ordered the orignal Cronut from Dominique Ansel’s bakery in Greenwich Village. Luckily we could ignore the SOLD OUT sign as we had ordered ahead 🙂
We also bought croissants and donuts so we could compare….
Unfortunately the flavour this month is “Bergamot Jam and Earl Grey Ganache” which was a little *sophisticated* for us, but it was fun nonetheless and in keeping with our Masterchef watching 🙂
Berlinda and Paul
Timber!
Argh! Just when you think all is going smoothly…the top half of a tree in your front garden randomly decides to fall down blocking the road and taking out power and cable lines. What a way to make you popular with the neighbours!
So the next few days were spent getting the power lines fixed, arguing with Verizon to get them to come out and fix the cable lines (ask E+L – internet is a utility!) and getting the broken parts of the tree chopped up and taken away 😦 Fun Fun!
Medieval Fathers Day
Happy Father’s Day Nathan!
This year we are celebrating Father’s day on the Australian Father’s day date as we missed American Father’s day flying to Australia. We spent it somewhere mid-Pacific ocean crossing the international date line…
After breakfast and gift/card giving…
(we have a family tradition of giving Nathan a flag for Father’s day – this year he got the NJ State flag)
we headed to Sterling Forest New York for the NY Renaissance Faire.
Sterling Forest seems like such a fitting place for a medieval play ground.
We showed off our archery skills…
Fun actors…
Saw some amazing fun shows – with sword throwing, fire whirling, whip cracking….
There were loads of themed games and shops…
(anyone want to buys some ears perhaps?)
We climbed rocks until mum saw a snake – eek
(the snakes seem to be around this year 😦  )
Tried not to disturb those sleeping there
A Renaissance Faire is not complete without faire food like turkey legs (mmmm turkey…)
Failed to pull the sword out of the stone – but gave it a good go!
(whoever pulls the sword out of the stone shall be the rightful king of England!)
Found Queens Landing before heading home.
It was lots of fun 🙂
Turkish Heaven
Some of our good friends just got back from Turkey and spoiled us with an AMAZING Turkish brunch…
Mum has been dying to go to Turkey for light years….but now all four of us want to go to Turkey!!! We’ll add it to our *short* travel wishlist…
Yummo – thanks guys for an amazing brunch and fabulous company!
