Flamingos, Crocs and beaches
An early start to take a boat trip off Rio Lagartos.
we saw so so many FLAMINGOS….
other birds…
(herons, black hawks, sea gulls, etc)
crocs for L (as per his special request to the captain)
the boat was pretty comfy…
To see Las Coloradas – the pink (?) lake…
A swim at a beautiful desrted island beach…
the back to have lunch and check out the town…
Rush rush rush through lunch – only for the driver not to turn up (twice in 2 days – 2 different companies – we’re on a roll). After the other driver was an hour late, the hotel organized a taxi which took another hour to come…the joys of traveling. E+L were happy with guac and wifi 🙂 Then we were off on the drive Chiquila…
Ferry to Holbox (arrived 4 minutes before the next ferry departed – E&L sure go go go like little champions in need!). They wanted to sit up top – and of course we got totally saturated- but who cares when it causes that many giggles!
We happily arrived on Holbox – our home for the next four nights! Mum (?) was a little tired so we took a golf cart taxi to our hotel. Of course that meant E&L could do their fortnite dances briefly on the back!

Checked in, had a swim and tested out our new snorkels. Hallelujah! Sports gifts to to tired mums. Kids stay face down in pools for minutes on end giving mums moments of peace & quiet – hallelujah!

Dinner was in the garden at Roots Pizza….an awesome surprise – it was delicious!
Followed by a little ice cream stop (it is pretty hot after all!)
Chichen Itza
We were up (with the monkeys) for an early 7am breakfast…
To get to the Chichen Itza ruins before the crowds & the heat hit.
Did the Mayans play noughts & crosses too?
A golf cart? If fortnite has taught us nothing else…golf carts are for dancing !?!
to cool off and have a swim

Our transfer to Ek Balam didn’t show up (there is always a speed hump or two!) Then we were off…
We passed through Temezon but we skipped the bull fight
We found some locals along the way out…
Then finally to Rio Lagartos, where we would stay the night 🙂 We chillaxed with wings + fries + guac + wifi (yes wifi!!!)
before we were ready for cocktail hour & dinner
Then as wifi was strongest in the foyer…why not add a little mexican flavour to our chillaxing…
Another fun day with my little guys (who are not so little any more!).
When we got to the hotel I was pretty tired. They quoted me the room rate in pesos, I hesitated for a moment and Eli in her wisdom leans over and whispers “it’s sixty US dollars mum”. It’s so wonderful to have super helpful, fun and capable little travellers Xxx
To go or not to go?
So dad is in India, and so we are headed to Mexico! (We’re meeting up with him next weekend). Why not right?
We had originally planned to go back to Nicaragua again, but given the riots & civil unrest – we changed our mind at last minute and headed to Mexico instead.
My first big adventure with just the kids – just the 3 of us. Fingers crossed everyone has fun 🙂
Every holiday has speed humps, we hadn’t even left home before we found the first one. Eli woke up with conjunctivitis 😦 Poor little bear 😦 What to do? Abort or go? We decided to go: because if we were in NJ we’d have to go to a doctor and then the pharmacy. In Mexico we could just go straight to the pharmacy. Easier right!?! Perhaps we could ask our airport transfer to add an extra stop to Valladolid, to have lunch and go to the pharmacy? Fingers crossed our Spanish gets us there….so we were off!
On the plus side (and we could use some at this point!!!) we got upgraded to Business/First class – now that is a better start to our holiday!
We arrived in Cancun to be met with cold water, roses (just for the girls sorry Lach!) and a Mercedes car – nice! We are definitely off to a classy start!
Smooth drive to Valladolid- lunch, ice cream in the park (poor Lachie dropped his) and a super fast & efficient visit to the farmacia for the eye medication. Gosh in the US we would have had to make a doctors appointment, go to appointment after no doubt waiting for a late-running doctor, get a script, get script filled – easily could take a few hours. Mexico ~30 seconds 🙂
Back in the car to Our hotel Mayaland on the grounds at Chichen Itza. Magnificent!
A little down time to enjoy the hotel grounds, then a well deserved cocktail and dinner…
followed by a show at the Observatory…myths, legends and stars…all of which there were many!
Finally we watched the sun go down over Chichen Itza from our room. A big but ultimately successful first day 🙂
Playmaker Award
Dad’s birthday outing
Never again
L&B Chillaxing
Visiting day
First week at camp meant color wars!
sob sob
Today our baby girl left for two weeks sleepaway camp. She chose to go to a ranch camp and pursue her horse riding passion 🙂 That meant lots and lots of stuff (helmet, riding boots, riding pants, shower caddy, etc)
We’ll miss you! but are not sure you’ll miss us.
Fingers crossed she has a great time…
