Off the Rails?
Tonight we headed out to a new restaurant – Rails – for B’s birthday dinner at the kids first steak house.
(Spoiler alert! Don’t read this if you are thinking of going)
We arrived too early to be seated and so they sent us downstairs for drink. We went downstairs to be confronted by the bathrooms and a book case…ah ha! Secret entrance…
We found our way in and had a pre-dinner drink
(very civilized for a family of four!)
Then when it was time – headed upstairs for dinner. We were totally blown away by the decor. Most of the wood came from felled trees during Hurrican Sandy and there were glass blocks in the floor…
Of course there was dessert…
(a cheese plate and dessert…who do you think voted for which?)
So much fun!

After Jonas
We woke up to a beautiful snow-filled day!
(the consensus seems to be about 28-29 inches)…
After clearing the side walks
we grabbed our sleds and headed down the Memorial Park hill (along with the rest of Maplewood!)
It was the perfect storm!
… it was light and fluff and easy to shoevel off the side walk
…it made for a smooth trip down the hill and a soft landing
…it was contained to the weekend and so did not create any commuting night mares.
…we had plenty of warning and so could be prepared
…we enjoyed a super chilled guilt free relaxing day yesterday – because everything was cancelled.
…and we kept power!
The perfect Jonas
It was the perfect storm 🙂
Friday night the media was in a frenzy….as per usual. At that stage you never know if the storm is going to change direction or if it is actually going to hit. So just in case we went out to dinner and came home via a friend’s house for a vino or two 🙂
Saturday nursing sore-wine-heads, we lit a fire and chillax’ed. There is not a whole lot you can do when there are hurricane force winds outside.
After lunch, the cabin-fever got too bad and we ventured out with some neighbours…
…only for the winds to be annoyingly strong so we headed back in. The snow depth was already above my knees and still consistently falling…
so a few attic and basement forts later
we went to sleep to the patter patter sounds of the snow continuing to fall 🙂 a little concerned about how much there would be to shovel off the side walks the next day when the snow finally stopped falling…
