Wanted: New Groundhog
Chuck from Staten Island, Phil from Punxsutawney, PA and their mates saw their shadows this morning and forecast that there will be another six weeks of winter. Rumour has that NY Mayor de Blasio dropped Staten Island Chuck – I would have been tempted too with that forecast! So have decided we should try things a little differently next year….
WANTED: one groundhog. Must be able to reliably predict “early spring” and have a strong enough pull with Mother Nature to make it happen! Will reward handsomely with unlimited green grass, leaves, acorns & nuts.
Last day of 8-wheeled torture
For eight long weeks, mum has dragged us kicking (slight exaggeration) and screaming (no exaggeration) early on Saturday mornings to the roller rink to learn how to skate. She has delusions of us all gracefully skating around parks and boardwalks together…Today was the last class!!! She promised…
Check out those disco balls!!!
Superbowl Boulevard
On my way into work ~7:30am I took a stroll down Superbowl Boulevard. I can’t imagine it being this calm at any other time of day. You can’t mover here during the day and I’d hate to think what it will look like on Sunday. But patrons can rest assured, wherever they stand they will able to see the game. Check out the number of big screens.
(How much fun does that Toboggan Run look? particularly after a few beers…)
The players were resting up for the game, but the mascots were there 🙂
Now we just need the game…
Aussie Day – NJ Style!
Usually Australia Day would be spent at the beach or by the BBQ, which is not really an option this year.
So we celebrated Australia Day in New Jersey style – decked out in our Wallaby jerseys, champas chilled in the snow, boxing kangaroo waving proudly out front – and pancakes with good friends 🙂
Happy Australia Day XXxx
Helloooo icicles!
Date with the PJ-Ninja
My little ninja took me on a date tonight!
He said “Mom, you never get to have Japanese because we don’t like it. Tonight I want to take you to Japanese for dinner.”
So my little man, dinosaur-jammies and all, on his absolute best behavior, combed his hair and took me out.

So I took him to the ice-cream parlour for dessert, jammies-n-all xx
Madagascar’s the best!
For World Day Lachie’s room became part of Madagascar.
What an awesome job the Tigers did 🙂
Each class learnt about a different country
We also saw his good friend Scarlett there
Tried foods from around the workd and saw a reptile show.
We even got to touch a striking yellow snake & tutle.
On the way home we saw Ann, Mike & the triplets and got to go on a carriage ride around Maplewood with them.
(One of their friends had hired it for a birthday party)
Another fun day in Maplewood 🙂
brrrrr – beanie, gloves & scarf don’t cut it!
Arctic winds brought us the coldest day since 1896 😦
Notably:
- it was colder in Chicago that it was in the South Pole.
- An inmate who escaped from Prison in Chicago chose to return as it was too cold!
- We even made the trusty SMH – Lethal Conditions Across US.
Whatever catchy phase you choose – artic wind, polar plunge – it is still a little chilly. The only good news are the articles who predict that a very cold winter means a very hot summer. At this point in time….bring it on!
Skating + Snow + (watching) Swimming all in one day!
Yes mum is still making Eli & Lachie suffer through roller skating classes….and man does it wear them out!
This is how we’ve been spending our Saturdays mornings.
In the afternoon / evening Britney came over.
(That means lots of games, fun, chicken nuggets, hugs and staying up late with Britney!)
Whilst Bianca & Nathan headed into the city. First stop was the yummy Momofuku noodle bar in the lower East side.
Surprisingly, the highlight for Nathan were the pork belly sliders – yummo 🙂 Who would have guessed from a noodle bar?
Then around the corner to see an Off-Broadway show Fuerza Bruta. It was amazing 🙂
There is always something to do 🙂
