Good Sticks
Today we went on a dad-led excursionto Chatham and found an awesome park today…
There was lots of cool equipment there…but all we wanted to do was play with sticks, having running races and wrestle 🙂
Zoo with Sam & Emma
Today we went to our local zoo with our friends Sam & Emma.
We saw the prairie dogs…
(really not sure why they call them dogs?)
While there we did a spot of fishing…
Climbed on the animals…
Got our face painted…
Hung out with the penguins trying to fit in
and saw Elmo…
Our friend Sam did an excellent job in keeping up with Lachie. Thank you Sam xx
It wasn’t the typical zoo visit as we didn’t see that many live animals, but we had a great time 🙂
Festival of the Grandparents
Dolls AND Trains
Today we went to Northlandz – a train and doll museum – in Flemington NJ.
We thought we’d seen it all when we came across this sign!
It was far and beyond what we expected!

Jersey Shore Grand Finale
Boardwalk City
Day two was spent enjoying Ocean City.
It strated with a nice leisurely breakfast…
…checking out the boardwalk
(these pictures just don’t do the craz-i-ness justice!)
…and for the sand-friendly of those amoung us, there was a beach 🙂
Cape May
What better way to spend the last official weekend of summer (and a long weekend at that!) than at the Jersey Shore. Plus after Irene’s visit last weekend we were all well and truely ready to get out of the house!
The first day was spent cruising around Cape May…
and the Cape May Lighthouse and Museum…
With a yummy dinner at Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que…
Eli with the bear out front…
A Beautiful Maple Tree
Once upon a time, across the street there was a beautiful happy tree.
Then Irene came to visit. At first it looked as if Irene had left only one broken branch behind.
Then another branch went…and another…
And soon there were more ear piecing cracking noises as more branches started taking death dives.
Concerned about our neighbour’s house (as they had called around to a friend’s house for a shower as they had neither water or electricity), we called the local “non-urgent” hurricane hotline to ensure that it didn’t fall on their house.
Maplewood’s finest called over…
…and called the fire department to have a look…
The beautiful tree was selfless as she lay on her death-bed, as she helped keep our cabin fever at bay on Sunday…
She is but one of the many old beautiful casualties of Irene 😦
The flip side…
Some good did come out of this.
We did get to work from home on the Monday 🙂
Which meant basking in the sun in the office/sunroom while working remotely.
Although we were finally allowed outside – there was work to be done…
(not that I can claim credit for this impressive stack!)
Luckily non-potable water started running through the pipes in the evening so that we could all shower again.
Luckily we had power throughout most of the bizarre experience and so we could stay well abreast of news coverage (and keep the kids entertained with TV!).
