Toddling
This video was shot on July 12, just after I’d really started toddling.
Three weeks later, I’m walking everywhere and into everything. Sometimes there is just so much to do around the house that it’s hard to find the time to blog.
For example, Mum and Dad like to take me for long walks on the weekend (1-3hrs), but they have never packed enough water. Before now, I couldn’t really help with that. So the other night, I checked that there was still a water bottle in the bottom of the stroller. Pulling it out, and walking around the room with it for a while, I could see that it was heavy but not overly so (0.5kg).
From my early morning bottle routine, I also know that Dad has a second bottle of water next to the bed. He never uses it, so I decided to put it in the stroller too. I walked into his bedroom and right up to the bedside table to get the bottle and carry it back to the stroller. Dad seemed to think this was a good idea, since he started clapping and happily went off to tell Mum what I’d done.
Like I said, there is much to be done…
Fun in the Park
Now that I can walk, going to the park has become a regular part of our weekends. This is video from of our first visits early in July.
The more Mum & Dad get out of the way, the more fun I have. First I had to get them used to the idea that dirt really wasn’t that bad to wear (or eat). Now, I have to convince them that they don’t have to control every swing and slide. I took my first big leap in that direction on the weekend… They were coddling me on the slippery dip, doing everything possible to ensure I didn’t fall. Then we went on the swing, which was fun. After getting off the swing, I walked 20m back over to the top of the slippery dip, climbed on and pushed myself off to slide down. Dad had rushed around to wait at the bottom, but I didn’t need him. I came to a nice stop and gave him a huge proud grin.
I think they got the point, as Mum & Dad then started jumping around, giving me kisses and generally embarrassing me in public.
It was time….
Mum, dad and I were playing in the lounge room last night when I decided that it was probably time I walked. I’ve been pulling myself up on things and walking around furniture since January / February.
So I just stood up unsupported and walked ten steps across the room. Then I stopped, stood there for a while and then promptly fell over.
You could have heard a pin drop. While mum and dad lifted their jaws up off the ground, I took another six or so steps and walked over to the couch. The I was off. Zigzagging across the room ever so daintily! Mum & dad were in shock and forgot to cheer at first – but they made up for it later with lots of kisses and hugs. Lucky! or they would have been in trouble!
Later mum compared my walking to being like a cautious tip-toeing cat-burglar…but I don’t understand what she means by that?
14 months and counting
So what have I been up to? Let me think….
- I now have loads of hair but still not enough for a pony tail 😦
- I have eight front teeth, 3 double teeth with a fourth double tooth about to poke through any second now.
- I’ve worked out that a kiss does not involve teeth.
- I have decided that I need a bottle in the middle of the night.
- I love playing on my bike, with my basket and with musical toys.
- I have been regularly taking two or three steps between things but am yet to really launch myself 🙂 Do you think it is time yet?
- My favourite foods are cheese, meat, fruit and yoghurt. I still don’t like mushrooms even though mum feeds them to me almost daily. Do you think she will get the picture soon?

a few small steps from Elimena…giant leaps of excitement from mum & dad 🙂
Aquarium with Grandpa
It was Grandpa’s birthday a couple of weeks ago, so we all went to the Sydney Aquarium. I enjoyed standing up close to the tanks and looking at all the fish. But eventually I realised that it was more fun looking back and waving at all the people who were trying to look at the fish.
