Two new Tigers in One Day!
Day 10 Cape Cod: Hartford to Home
Our final day started with a final look around Hartford,CT.
Then a short-ish drive (2.25 hours) home.
to find our yummy Tomatoes waiting. All is good in this world!
We were home by lunch so that we could settle and prepare for a big week!
Our big drive across five states – NJ-NY-CT-RI-MA was complete in one nice big fun circle. There was so much to see & do that we didn’t have time for – we’d happily do it all over again…just not for a while. We’re looking forward to having some time at home now and settling into the school year 🙂
Cape Cod Day 9: Brewster to Hartford
It was time to start the journey home 😦 but let’s not let that stop us from having more fun!
Breakfast was at our new favourite place – Jo Mama’s Bagels. Yummo! Then we were off.
Not far along in the car, Eli lost her third tooth (and three more are wiggly!). See the earlier post for piccies 🙂
Our first stop was at Springfield MA, to see the Dr Suess Sculpture garden. There were sculptures from his different books – see if you can work out which one is from which!
(Who knew that Dr. Suess – who is on constant rotation in our house – was born in Springfield MA, so we had to make a slight detour to pay homage)
This unusual bridge and power plant right in the middle of the Springfield town made us wonder if this is the Springfield, USA where the Simpsons television show is based…
The day was then spent at Six Flags New England (Eli’s birthday passes just keep on giving!)
We then drove the final half hour of our trip to Hartford CT in the late afternoon. After a brief rest we went for a walk around town and Bushnell Park
which included a roll down the hill at the Capitol building
(reminding us of our roll down the hill at Parliament House in Canberra with Gma)
Yummy dinner at City Steam Brewery Café.
(L quite taken with Virginia our very nice hostess)
Eli’s front tooth
Cape Cod Day 8: More Beach Time
A more relaxing day today 🙂
The day started with a little lego time for the early risers…
First we checked out the Cottage Street Bakery – who had some yummy delicious looking treats, but unfortunately it was too early for something so sweet – even for us! We enjoyed the window shopping though 🙂
Bagel time (at Nathan’s new favourite place – Jo MaMas)
Some scooter time
Beach time…
and lunch at Liam’s on the beach
Rest time…zzz!
Then we sadly returned our beloved hermit crabs
to Skatet beach at low tide 😦
before grabbing a take away dinner from JTs.
Looking at this map…no wonder this holiday feels like the a trip from light house to light house 🙂
Cape Cod Day 7: Martha’s Vineyard
With everyone at 100% we thought we’d check out Martha’s Vineyard today.
Firstly we drove to Wood’s Hole where had a a quick snack at the Pie In The Sky Bakery
Then we boarded the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard.
We had five hours until our Ferry departed and so we decided to pretty much drive around the island.
First stop was Aquinnah, at the Gay’s Head Lighthouse.
Then Menemsha Fishing Village
Then Edgartown
for lunch at the Wharf Pub
Back to Oak Bluffs to check out the gingerbread houses at The Community
The a wander through the park
and around the town of Oaks Bluff
before an ice-cream
With a ferry ride back to the main land we headed home…
Dinner at the The Outback Steakhouse.
Another fun day 🙂
Cape Cod Day 6: The Monomoy Island Seals
She’s back baby! After 24 hours of antibiotics, Eli was on the mend and feeling much better!
After a cautious morning walk / bike ride to test Eli’s match fitness, we headed out for the day.
First stop was Nauset Light beach
(sand castles for some – seal watching for others! How awesome is it that they just swim past???)
Chatham wharf to meet our seal cruise, where we were lucky enough to see a fishing boat come in – followed closely some hungry birds & seals.
Then for a boat trip and to see the local seals of Monomay Island:
Where we saw LOADs of seals swimming happily in the harbor:
A casual lunch at Cobie’s Seafood Shack:
(yes mum’s summer quest to eat nothing but seafood when possible continued!)
Home for quiet time…
Then crab & fish chasing at Skaket Beach at low tide.
We brought home a few hermit crabs – but we know we have to return them before we leave (unless we can convince dad otherwise?)
Cape Cod Day 5: Chillin on the beaches
Poor Eli was still not the best today and so a quiet day was in order 😦
Afer a scooter ride, we spent the morning checking out gorgeous Chatham (pronounced “chat – ham”), its cute light house and the local beach.
We then spend the afternoon tracking down a medical center that would accept out-of-towners. Poor Eli had TWO ear infections 😦 Hopefully her antibiotics would have her on the mend in no time!
We had a quiet but yummy dinner at Land-Ho in Orleans.
A quiet but nice day 🙂
Day 4 cont: Whales Whales and more Whales
When Nathan, Eli & Lachie headed home for quiet time, I went on a whale watching trip.
(After our unsuccessful trip in Cape May, no one was rushing to join me)
It was AWESOME!!!!
You may be glad to know that this is 20 of the 350 photos that I took. If anyone would like to see all 350, I will very happily take you through them 🙂
Cape Cod Day 4: P-town
Today we headed 30 miles (45 minutes) north to Provincetown:
(“p-town” if you’re a local!)
Province Lands Visitors Center with its beautiful rooftop view of the Sand dunes and water…
Race Point Beach for a little bird chasing (for those with enough energy!)
Breakpoint Walk
(where poor mum lost her sunglasses when she and Lachie were watching the crabs through the rocks)
Lunch at the yummy Lobster Pot…
A quick look at cute P-town downtown
We found the wharf…
Then someone mentioned whales and the next thing we knew mum was gone!
She did come back though 🙂 See the next post for her whale pictures 🙂
